It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Alan “Al” Davies on June 4, 2026.
Al was, above all else, a kind and generous man whose impact on his family, friends, students and community will be felt for years to come. A dedicated teacher for 35 years, he believed in the power of education, service and helping others. Whether in the classroom or out in the community, Al was always willing to lend a hand and encourage those around him to do the same.
Al’s commitment to community service was extraordinary. He spent many years volunteering with Kawartha Food Share, regularly collecting donations from grocery stores and helping ensure food reached those who needed it most. As a retired teacher, he inspired countless young people to embrace community involvement, helping students complete volunteer hours while supporting organizations such as the MS Society, the Lakefield Animal Welfare Shelter and local food and holiday programs for families in need. For Al, giving back was never about recognition - it was simply the right thing to do.
Al was the beloved husband of Audrey for 45 years and a devoted father to Stephanie (Jeff) and Janine (Mike). He was an immensely proud grandfather to Brooke, Eve and Harris, who brought him endless joy and laughter.
Outside of his volunteer work, Al embraced life with enthusiasm and appreciation for its simple pleasures. He loved dogs, cooking, reading, playing bridge, and travelling with family and friends. He loved all sports - especially watching the Blue Jays or Maple Leafs. He never turned down shrimp, fondue, a steak dinner, or a chocolate chip cookie. Most recently, he enjoyed entertaining his friends with a charcuterie board and a flight of craft beer.
Those who knew Al will remember his kindness, his generosity, his unwavering support of others and his ability to make everyone feel welcome. He lived a life defined not by what he achieved for himself, but by what he gave to others. Al’s legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, the community he helped build and the family he loved so deeply. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
