It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Barry Abbott of Lakefield, Ontario, who passed away at Peterborough Regional Health Centre surrounded by family on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the age of 77.
He was a loving and devoted husband to Janice Abbott (nee Monteith), and a proud father to Robin Herriman (Todd), Craig Abbott (Shau), grandpa to Riley (Aidan), Jesse, and Rhys, and great grandpa to Theo and Maizie.
Barry was born on December 27, 1948, in Smiths Falls to Marshall “Mac” and Jessie Abbott (née Jakes) and is survived by his brother Brian (Donna).
He retired from Bell Canada in 1998. Barry obtained his private pilot licence in 1983 and enjoyed many years of flying his own airplanes (he had many). He was the captain of his own boats (he had many), loved restoring and flipping cars (he had many), and enjoyed extensive travel, including Canada from coast to coast, several Caribbean islands, and most recently the UK and Ireland.
He was a beloved brother-in-law to Hugh Monteith (Nancy d.) (Carol), Gloria Monteith, Nancy Bergsma (George), Lianne Todd (Jim), and will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family.
Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at PRHC for all their care. There will be no service or visitation as per Barry’s wishes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
