Obituary

Carol Davenport 1936 - 2026

With hearts full of gratitude and sorrow, we announce the passing of Carol Davenport (nee Bawden) surrounded by her family on April 3rd, 2026, in her 90th year. Beloved wife of the late Bill (William) Davenport and cherished Mother of Dennis (Ruth Gentle), Tim (Stacey Caville), Shelagh (David Ellis) and Sharon (David Livingstone). Dear sister of Jim Bawden (deceased) and sister-in law Marie Bawden.

Proud Grandmother of Benjamin (Jessie), Carly (Jon), Joel, Jessica (Ethan), Vincent (Yoko), Michelle (Marco), Colleen (James), Ethan (Racheal), Terry Nathan (Synthia), the late Alex, Victoria (Brandon), and Hannah (Ryan). And Great Grandmother to sixteen.

Born April 4th, 1936 in Sudbury to William E.G. Bawden and Henrietta LeClair, Carol spent her childhood growing up in remote Ontario mining communities until moving to Toronto in 1949. After graduating from the University of Toronto and starting their family, she and Bill moved to Peterborough and later to their dream Victorian home in Norwood to continue their passion for antiques.

Carol was an exceptional piano player and by the age of 18 completed grade nine exams at the Royal Conservatory in Toronto. She was also a dedicated, passionate special education Teacher for 30 years with the PVNC Catholic District School Board.

Most of all Carol treasured a life of gatherings with family and friends including Jay (the late Audrey) Davenport, the late Theresa and Frank Peets, Sheila (the late Ed) Niezbrzycki, the late Terry (Shirley) Davenport, and the late Jacqui and George Griffith, as well as many nieces, nephews, LeClair cousins and antiquing friends.

A warm thank you to the staff at Riverview Manor Peterborough and Royal Gardens Peterborough for their exceptional care.

A Memorial Service will be held at Highland Park Funeral Centre, 2510 Bensfort Road, Peterborough Ontario on Sunday April 19th, 2026 at 2PM.  Reception to follow.
