PELL, Dr. Bryan Anthony: Peacefully at Hospice Peterborough surrounded by the love of his family on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 in his 93rd year. Bryan, beloved husband of twenty-six years to Jacqueline McCloy Pell. Loving and devoted father of Martin (Christine), Rosalind (Jeff), and the late Sylvain. Cherished Grandfather of Ben and Emily Nelson, and Aiden and Connor Pell. Dear brother of Marie Wrennal (Keith, predeceased). Uncle, great uncle and great great uncle to much loved niece and nephews in Australia. Son of the late Herbert Pell and Margaret Martin. He came to Canada, from England, in 1968 as assistant Director of Psychiatry at the old Civic Hospital. When the Director moved on, he became Director of Psychiatry. In 1985 he moved to Mississauga to head up the new Department of Psychiatry at Credit Valley Hospital. For several years he was the onsite doctor for Wanapitei, a wilderness camp in Temagami. Canoeing on lakes and rivers gave him special joy. . He loved long walks particularly along the ocean in Beaumaris, Australia when he visited his Australian family. In his 70s he walked his longest walk - 68 km in one day. He had a passion for gardening and every home had beautiful British style gardens. In his later years reading mysteries and historic seafaring novels became his hobby along with the many worldwide newspapers he reviewed every day. His best days were spent outside watching the birds flying around the yard and enjoying nature. He was a man who lived life the way he chose right up to the very end. He chose to help people first as a psychiatrist and, after retirement, as a volunteer at Hospice Peterborough for 20 years. He touched many people’s lives. Bryan’s family would like to thank Dr. Webster, the staff of the Palliative Care Unit of PRHC and Hospice Peterborough for the wonderful care Bryan received in his last days. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Bryan’s Celebration of Life Reception at Highland Park Funeral Centre on Saturday, July 25th from 2:00 to 5:00pm with Words of Remembrance at 3:00pm. Private Interment Little Lake Cemetery. In memory of Bryan, and in lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Peterborough would be appreciated by his family.
