It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eugenie “Jane” Fernandes, wonderful wife to Henry; marvelous mother to Kim, and Matthew (Stephanie); glorious grandmother to Robyn (Erik), Owen (Mikaela), and Finn; sweet sister to brother Peter (Emily).
One of Canada’s premier children’s book authors and illustrators, Jane has over 130 titles to her credit. A true artist, she could find a thousand words inside a seashell. Every frog had a story, every pig had a purpose, and every mouse had meaning. A curator of the curious, she loved sharing her art, stories, and heart with the world. Jane truly was a champion of creativity and kindness.
Jane passed away peacefully at Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) after a brave battle with leukaemia. She was surrounded by the love and laughter of her family.
Deepest thanks to Dr. Blake and the wonderful palliative care team at PRHC.
To honour Jane’s creativity and compassion, a donation can be made to the Art Gallery of Peterborough or the Palliative Care Unit at PRHC.
A Celebration of Life will be held at her home on Buckhorn Lake later this summer.
