George Anson Coleman

George Anson Coleman passed away peacefully at the age of 92, leaving behind a legacy of family, hard work, and quiet determination.

Born on the family farm near Varna, Ontario, George was predeceased by his parents, Fern (Taylor) and Anson Coleman, and brothers, Gordon (Lois), Gerald and Jack (Eleanor) Coleman.

George was proud of his rural roots and often described himself as "a farm boy from Zurich County." A gifted athlete, he excelled in hockey and other sports before pursuing a career in accounting, earning his Chartered Accountant designation and later becoming a Life Member. Spending over 20 years of his career with Metropolitan Toronto, he was respected for his leadership in housing and senior care, helping modernize long-term care homes and improve the lives of countless residents and staff.

In 1963, George married the love of his life, Liz (Kidd). Together they shared 48 years of marriage (before her passing in 2011), raising their family while balancing city careers with a lifelong passion for farming.

Outside of work, George found his greatest happiness on the farm, behind the wheel of a tractor, or at the racetrack. He raised cattle, bred horses, and became an enthusiastic racehorse owner.

Above all, George was a devoted father to Craig (Sylvie Pouliot) and Jennifer (Tim Ryder) Coleman, and grandfather to Derek, Patrick, and Kevin Coleman as well as Carly and Cole Ryder. He was a proud supporter of his family's many activities and accomplishments.

The family would like to thank Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Toronto General Hospital, Amica Erin Mills, and the Credit Valley Hospital for their care.

Friends and family will be received for a memorial service at Highland Park Funeral Centre, 2510 Bensfort Rd., Peterborough on Saturday, August 22 from 1–2 p.m. with service at 2 p.m. Reception to follow.
