Obituary

Surrounded by family, Glen Albert Vizniowski, 83, of Peterborough passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 following a long battle with Dementia and Parkinsonism. Born in Hamilton on October 6, 1942 to Stephen and Laura Vizniowski (nee Uhrich).

After graduating from McMaster University with degrees in Chemistry and Education, Glen taught for a year in Hamilton before moving to Peterborough where he taught for the remainder of his career at Thomas A. Stewart Secondary School. Beyond teaching, Glen spent countless hours at T.A.S.S.S. coaching soccer and track and field. Glen was often responsible for the grounds at local track meets and his green truck had free rein on the sports fields of the city.

In addition to his parents, Glen was preceded in death by his wife, Connie French and his brother Van.

Connie died at a young age leaving Glen to continue raising their children on his own.  Glen excelled in his role as a single parent and ensured that his children had all that they needed and did so without having to forgo his own passions.  Connie would have been proud!

Glen is survived by his children Scott (Pamela) Vizniowski, Sarah (Scott) Howson, his three grandchildren Elise, Kira and Nico and his siblings Wayne (Mary Ellen), Sharon Lalonde (Maurice), Gary, Carol Donnelly, Leonard (d. Cindy) and many loved nieces and nephews.

Outside of school, Glen was an avid fisherman, hunter, and world traveler.  In the early 70’s Glen and a few close friends bought property near Marmora, where they built a log cabin, affectionately known as the Teachers Camp, from which they hunted together as long as they were able.  What started as a boys hunting club became a cherished place to enjoy and pass on their passion for the outdoors with their families.  This was Glen’s favourite place in the world and beyond hunting, he spent many days there making maple syrup in the spring.

When his children were young, summers were spent travelling from coast to coast across Canada with his tent trailer.  This continued with his granddaughters as well, most memorably with a five week trip to Alberta and back when they were still quite young.  In his later years he enjoyed trips to the Ukraine, Italy, and Africa with his siblings, to the Canadian north and to China.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Glen’s name to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
