Gloria Jean (Wicks) Bird

BIRD, Gloria Jean  (nee Wicks),

At the age of 82, of Peterborough, Ontario, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026, at Lakefield Extendicare, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 18, 1944, in Peterborough Ontario, to the late Paul and Martha Wicks.   Gloria is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Bill Bird; their children, Roger (Keri) Bird, Jeff (Karen) Bird and Jason (Suzanne) Bird; eight grandchildren; Madison, Tamara, Nathaniel, Kyle (Paige), Bronwyn (Carson), Max, Kate, and Mackenzie. Gloria is also survived by her loving sister Tish Oosterbroek.  Gloria graduated as an RN from Peterborough Civic Hospital in 1964, working at PCH and then Scott Clinic until her retirement. Gloria was an enthusiastic flutist in the New Horizons band as well as being a very artistic painter. 
Following retirement, Gloria and Bill travelled extensively through the US and enjoyed many fond ‘little trips to nowhere’. A service to celebrate Gloria’s life will be held at the HIGHLAND PARK FUNERAL CENTRE, 2510 Bensfort Rd., Peterborough on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 11:00 AM.  Reception to follow in the Highland Park Reception Centre. Donations in memory of Gloria, and in lieu of flowers, can be made to Hospital for Sick Children or Lakefield Animal Welfare Society (LAWS).
