Harold Kloosterman Obituary

KLOOSTERMAN, Harold Hans

Born March 3rd, 1958 to Margaret and John Kloosterman. Harold was the oldest of four children, and always enjoyed gathering with them and watching each of their families grow over the years. Harold met Sue at Trent University and spent 5 years pursuing her, before making her his wife. Anyone who spent time with Sue and Harold saw the great love, respect, and joy that they shared. Harold loved Sue’s parents and adopted her many siblings as his own. Harold’s greatest joy was raising his four children: Alexander, Justin, David, and Olivia. As each of them married, he loved each new in-law (Katie, Rebecca, Jennifer, and Cory) as his own child. He also poured much of his heart and soul into the many people who spent time - whether hours or months - in his home over the years. Harold had several careers, including construction, tech services, and teaching, with his years teaching at Brookside Detention Centre being a highlight of his career. Harold was blessed with 8 grandchildren before he passed, whom he adored: Finn, Grace, Ruth, Levi, Mae, Clara, Elsie, and Tye. They all loved their Opa dearly.  Harold’s faith is beautifully captured in the historic question and answer of the Heidelberg Catechism:

Question: What is your only comfort in life and death?

Answer: That I am not my own, But belong with body and soul,

Both in life and in death, to my faithful Saviour Jesus Christ.

He has fully paid for my sins with his precious blood, and has set me free from all the power of the devil.

He also preserves me in such a way that without the will of my heavenly Father,

not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, all things must work together for my salvation.

Therefore, by his Holy Spirit he also assures me of eternal life and makes me heartily willing and ready from now on to live for him.

Harold’s earthly joys included camping trips with Sue, an afternoon spent with family, a day on the water sailing with his good friend Tim, a good cigar, and a ‘snort’ of well-aged scotch.Though the last 5 years of Harold’s life were shadowed by dementia, his spirit of grace and strength were always apparent, and he recognized and loved each of his family members until his final breath. Harold/Dad/Opa, will be so greatly missed by all who knew him, especially Sue and his children, even as we celebrate his entrance into Glory.

Harold entered into rest to be with the Lord on Friday, March 5, 2021 at St. Joseph’s at Fleming at the age of 63.  Beloved husband of Sue (nee Evans) for 38 years.  Devoted father of Alexander and his wife Rebecca, Justin and his wife Katie, David and his wife Jennifer and Olivia Campbell and her husband Cory.  Cherished Opa of Finn, Grace, Levi, Ruth, Mae, Clara, Elsie and Tye. Loving son of Margaret and the late John Kloosterman.  Dear brother of Richard (Michelle), Art (Linda)and Jennifer Kloosterman (Andy Tyrer).  Loving brother in law to, Larry (Janice), Joan (Dwight), Brian (Luanne), Nancy (Darcy), Mary (Tim), Marg (Tej), Linda (Greg). Harold loved all his nieces and nephews, and those that passed through our home over the years. There will be a Celebration of Harold’s Life at WESTMOUNT BIBLE CHAPEL 1150 Clonsilla Ave on Friday, March 12, 2021 at 1:00 PM.
