At the age of 94, Helen Heenan passed away peacefully at Peterborough Hospice on July 10, 2026.
Daughter of the late Michael and Annie Gabovic. Sister to her four brothers (predeceased) Alec (Betty-Ann), Mike (Marilyn), Steve (Helen), and Joe (Marie). Wife to the late Gerald Heenan. Mother to Art (predeceased) (Linda), Holly, Lisa (Dave), and Maria (Steve).
Grandmother to Shawn (Amy), Kevin (Leslie), Gregory (Amy), Travis (Lauren), and Kurtis (Craig).
Great-grandmother to Ryerson, Hawksley, Cadence, Talon, Sylvie, and Ellie.
We are so thankful for everyone at Hospice Peterborough. Helen truly enjoyed her time in comfort during her stay. She received constant visits from loved ones and exceptional care and compassion from the staff.
Helen was born in Deloro and moved to Percy Boom in 1969 where she lived until she moved to Campbellford for 5 years before settling in Peterborough with her daughter, Holly and her grandson, Travis in 1990. She always enjoyed fishing, Timmie’s coffee, camping, mowing the grass, gardening, week long visits to her son Art’s place in Havelock, bingo days, game shows, visiting with her great-grandchildren, and cooking from scratch; her classics being perogies, pickles, and cabbage rolls.
Helen was a huge part of our lives and while we feel so blessed to have had so much time with her and that she got to touch the lives of six great-grandchildren, we will feel her absence very strongly and she will be deeply missed.
The celebration of life will take place at 2:00pm - 5:00pm on August 22 at 792 Canal Road, Peterborough.
