Jeffrey Dickinson Obituary

Jeffrey King Dickinson

August 20th 1962 - April 14th 2024

Jeffrey King Dickinson, 61, of Peterborough, passed away peacefully on April 14th surrounded by his family, after a short but courageous battle with AML Leukemia. Jeff adored his family, and his love for them showed in everything that he did. He was born in Thornhill and spent most of his summers and weekends at his family’s cottage on Kasshabog Lake. Jeff found his calling in his early 20’s when he fought forest fires all across North America, but primarily in Red Lake, Ontario. Although it wasn’t glamorous work, he did it tirelessly, without complaint, and looked forward to returning each season. This was Jeff’s nature, always taking care of others. Jeff loved the outdoors and could be found spending time in his backyard - relaxing, hosting, gardening or completing woodworking projects.

Later, Jeff was an avid member of the Peterborough community, driving for the City of Peterborough. All those who encountered Jeff felt his devotion and passion for his work. Many looked forward to seeing his smile, or hearing some of his jokes while he was working. Jeff was selfless and asked for nothing in return. He helped strangers and friends in any way that he could; whether it was a meal, or a listening ear, and he was very charitable to others in need.

Jeff’s love for his wife, Lynn, and his daughters, Emily and Sarah, was evident and he made sure they always knew it through his words and actions. Jeff was an animal lover, but especially loved his dogs (and grand-dogs) and ensured they always had plenty of treats, playtime and snuggles. Jeff loved sports and sharing this with his brother Michael was something that he adored. He was so proud of his family. His legacy will be passed down through stories of an amazing Father, Husband, Poopaw, Brother and Friend. His love and joy for his family gave him strength during difficult times, and he made us laugh until the very end.

Jeff is survived by the love of his life, Lynn, who supported him unconditionally through his battle against cancer. His amazing daughters Emily (Riley) and Sarah will forever see their dad as their hero and follow in his footsteps. His brother Michael (Carrie) will always have a place for him in his heart. His grandson Ryker brought immense joy to his life. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews and friends of his daughters, whom he treated as if they were his own children, his step-mother, Marilyn, along with many cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
