John Arnold Wickert

April 24, 1934 – May 30,  2023

John Arnold Wickert of Peterborough Ontario, passed away May 30, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.

John was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, to his parents Arnold and Antoinette Wickert, and was loved and adored by his parents and his three sisters.

He met the love of his life, Barbara (Sanderson) in 1959 in St. Thomas, Ontario, when he was transferred from the Fort William Times Standard to the St Thomas Times Standard.  By his own account he knew in an instant that she was the love of his life.

He was a Tradesman Printer who enjoyed working at the Peterborough Examiner for over 30 years. He made many friends amongst his coworkers and was long remembered for his kindness and great sense of humour.

In his spare time John played golf, which he did well into his eighties.  He could often be seen playing the ‘front 9’ at the Liftlock Golf Club with his best friend  Barbie. 

He was a parishioner at St. Anne’s Parish and St. Peter-in-Chains Cathedral, and he lived a life of service to God through his kind actions to others. 

John Wickert was an exceptional Father, Grandfather and a proud Great-Grandfather.   He treasured them all,  and was known for his  secret supply of Smarties.  He will leave behind many people whose eyes will shine with love when they tell a funny story about “crazy Papa” and his antics.

Friends and Family are invited to gather for a Celebration of John Wickert’s Life, which will be held at the Highland Park Funeral Centre on June 9, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  In his memory, donations to the Peterborough Regional Health Centre Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
