John Alexander Rutkauskas CPA, CGA.
March 16, 1929 (Lithuania) – April 26, 2026 (Peterborough)
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John, loving son of the late John (Jonas) and Eva Rutkauskas. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Mary (Tudhope), his much-loved daughter Lori (Chris Burke) and grandsons Jackson and Carson of North Vancouver and son Peter (Tamara) and granddaughters Rachel and Chelsea of Barrie. John is predeceased by his 2 sisters Birute and Brigita and will be remembered by many nieces and nephews. In-laws Joe Rees, Rick and Marilyn Tudhope are deeply saddened.
In his professional life John was controller of Cherney Brothers and related companies of home furnishing stores in central Ontario. John enjoyed taking on many leadership responsibilities. Early in his life he was vice president of the world’s YM/YWCA branch in Linz Austria. Immigrating to Canada in 1951 he was very active in Canadian cultural life. He provided leadership in many organizations including the Peterborough Concert Association, the Kiwanis Club of Peterborough, chairman and treasurer of the Kiwanis Music Festival, president of the Music Festivals Association of Ontario, Lieutenant Governor of Kawanis, Employment Planning and Counselling of Peterborough, Peterborough Community Credit Union as well as Commander of the Peterborough Power and Sail Squadron.
John loved winters in Florida, downhill skiing with his family and friends and cruising the waterways of Ontario.
A celebration of life will be held on May 22nd, 2026, at 2PM at Highland Park Funeral Centre at 2510 Bensfort Road with visitation 2 hours preceding and a reception to follow. Donations in John’s name would be appreciated to the Peterborough Kiwanis Music Festival, the PRHC or another charity of your choice.
