McElroy, Ruth Isabelle (Wilmot), in her 98th year, passed away peacefully April 1st, 2026 at Peterborough Regional Health Centre on her terms surrounded by family.
She was born on September 14th, 1928, to William Herbert and Clara Helen (Jackson) Wilmot in Newmarket, Ontario.
She was the younger sister of Clara Agnes (d.)(Frank Taylor d.)Dayment.
She married Robert Edward McElroy on July 31st, 1947, they moved to Peterborough and had six children, Laura (Peter d.) Scrivener of Burlington, Louise (Jim) LaPointe of Trout Creek, Linden (Bastiaan) van Dompseler of Fowlers Corners, Jack (Sandra) McElroy of Peterborough, Rob McElroy of Creston, BC and Marg (Ross) Lillico of Omemee. Tim (Yvonne) Phillips (son Luke) and Madge (Dave d.) McNulty (daughter Heather) also joined the family as their “chosen” children in the early seventies.
Ruth is survived by her children, her grandchildren, Kimmy Dunn, Susan LaPointe (Ken Rice), Stephen (Kim) Lillico, Dawn (Chris) Bolam, Barry van Dompseler (Darren Pamayah), Andrea (Bill) Thompson, David Scrivener, Lindsay Scrivener (Eli) and Hailey (Cam) Staples-Cole. Great-Grandchildren Desmon (Shannon) Dunn, Nolan (Alanna) Dunn, Bailey Larocque, Morgan Lillico, Kaitlynn (Jake) Corder, Megan (Cameron) Cooper, Emma Bolam, Zachary Bolam, Caleb Bolam, Yohanna Thompson, Darci Thompson, Jaxon van Dompseler Pamayah, Colby van Dompseler Pamayah, Mackenzie Cooper, Cadence Staples, Arthur Staples. Great, Great-Grandchildren Lauren and Lachlan Dunn, Lucy Dunn, Charlotte and Addie Corder.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2026 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Highland Park Funeral Centre, 2510 Bensfort Road, Peterborough, ON K9J 1C5.
The family would like to thank the staff in the Palliative Care unit and the staff and all her friends at Kawartha Heights Retirement Home.
