Obituary

Shelley was born on March 27, 1953, in Toronto, ON to Doris and Clarence Hope. Shelley grew up in Oakville, where she attended OTHS, went on to study at The Ontario College of Art, and later in life the University of Western Ontario. Shelley is survived by her sister Janice, and her three beloved children, Jacob (Mariana), Derek, and Anya, as well as their father Hendrik. She is predeceased by her adored big brother Bryan (MaryEllen). Shelley was the favourite Aunt to many, had an extensive network of relatives and in-laws both near and far that she treasured. Shelley had a steadfast group of girlfriends that she kept by her side through life, her cherished FNG’s.

Shelley loved life and all the adventures that came with it. An avid camper from youth into adulthood, she always found joy and wonder in the outdoors.

Shelley raised her family in Oakville, ON before beginning adventures that would take her from Lewiston, ON, to Great Barrington, MA, to Lee, MA, to Ellsworth, MI and home again to Peterborough, ON. Shelley picked up many beloved friends at every stop.

Shelley also loved her Cavaliers. The serendipitously named Hope came first, followed by Sophie. The dogs provided much joy in her life and allowed her to expand her ever growing group of friends.

Shelley had an undeniable spark and zest for life. She could be found walking the beach collecting shells or Petoskeys, interesting pieces of driftwood, or other treasures. Shelley loved the arts, reading, music and good food. Shelley also loved a good campfire and a weekend adventure to somewhere new. Shelley never stopped seeing the joy and wonder in the world. She will be dearly missed by all that has the good fortune to meet her.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shelley’s beloved Camp Wabanaki to support the next generation of happy campers.
